# How to switch from Cursor to Cline, Roo Code, Claude Code and other agents

> A step-by-step move away from Cursor, which has stopped working in Russia: which agent to pick (Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Continue, Claude Code, OpenCode), how to move your project and rules, and how to connect Claude, GPT, Gemini and DeepSeek via RuAPI. No VPN or foreign card needed.

Since September 4, 2026, Cursor has stopped working for users in Russia: according to RBC and The Moscow Times, the agent and suggestions simply stopped responding, with no official announcement. On top of that, Anthropic has been restricting Russian Claude accounts at scale since spring 2026. For a short overview of why it's worth switching and what you get, see [www.ruapi.ai/cursor-alternativa](https://www.ruapi.ai/cursor-alternativa?lng=en\&utm_source=docs\&utm_campaign=en-cursor-alternatives); below are the step-by-step instructions.

The good news is that Cursor isn't the only way to work with an AI agent. Open-source agents — Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Continue, OpenCode — and the official Claude Code can do all the same things: understand your project, edit code across multiple files and run commands. They get their models directly over an API. With RuAPI, that works from Russia without a VPN, without Anthropic or OpenAI accounts and without a foreign card: you top up in USDT and pay only for the tokens you use, with no subscription.

## What to use instead of Cursor

| Tool | Runs in | Strengths | Guide |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Cline** | VS Code | Closest to Cursor's agent: planning, multi-file edits, separate models for planning and doing | [Setup](/en/integrations/cline) |
| **Roo Code** | VS Code | Architect, Code, Debug and Orchestrator modes, each with its own model | [Setup](/en/integrations/roo-code) |
| **Kilo Code** | VS Code, JetBrains, terminal | An agent with model selection right in the chat | [Setup](/en/integrations/kilo-code) |
| **Continue** | VS Code, JetBrains | Codebase chat, edits to selected code, agent mode | [Setup](/en/integrations/continue) |
| **Claude Code** | Terminal, VS Code and JetBrains extensions | Anthropic's official agent — gets the most out of Claude models | [Setup](/en/integrations/claude-code) |
| **OpenCode** | Terminal | An open-source terminal agent that works with any model | [Setup](/en/integrations/opencode) |
| **Codex** | Terminal | OpenAI's agent for GPT models | [Setup](/en/integrations/codex) |
| **JetBrains AI Assistant** | JetBrains IDEs | The built-in assistant in IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm and other IDEs, with your own key | [Setup](/en/integrations/jetbrains-ai-assistant) |

**Not sure which to pick?** If you're used to Cursor's interface, install VS Code and Cline. If you work in JetBrains IDEs, go with Continue or Kilo Code. If you prefer the terminal, try Claude Code or OpenCode.

## How to switch from Cursor

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install VS Code">
    Cursor is built on VS Code, so in [VS Code](https://code.visualstudio.com) almost everything is where you expect it: the same interface, keyboard shortcuts and extensions. Open the same project folder — the project itself doesn't change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get a RuAPI key">
    Sign up at [www.ruapi.ai](https://www.ruapi.ai/?utm_source=docs\&utm_campaign=en-cursor-alternatives) and top up your balance ([how to top up](/en/topup)). Then go to Console → **API Keys** and click **Create API key**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install an agent and connect the models">
    Install the agent you chose (Cline, for example) and set it up using the guide from the table above. It takes a few minutes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Move your project rules">
    If your project has Cursor rules (`.cursorrules` or a `.cursor/rules` folder), copy them into the new agent's format: `.clinerules` for Cline, `CLAUDE.md` for Claude Code, `AGENTS.md` for OpenCode and Codex.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  No bank card needed: you can top up your balance in USDT. If you don't have USDT yet, follow our [step-by-step guide to buying it with rubles](/en/buy-usdt). Foreign-issued cards are accepted too.
</Tip>

## Which models are available

RuAPI gives you the same models you had in Cursor, and more: Claude (`claude-opus-5-5`, `claude-sonnet-5-5`, `claude-haiku-5-5`), GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, GLM, Qwen and Kimi. See the full list and prices on the [pricing page](https://www.ruapi.ai/pricing?utm_source=docs\&utm_campaign=en-cursor-alternatives).

## What it costs

There's no subscription: you pay only for the tokens your tasks consume. To spend less:

* **Connect Claude in its native format.** Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Continue, OpenCode and Claude Code all offer a way to connect Claude models with prompt caching, so re-sent context costs at least 10× less. Each guide explains how.
* **Use an inexpensive model for routine work.** Use a strong model for planning and hard problems, and `deepseek-flash` for simple edits.
* **Set a limit on your key.** Under **API Keys** in the Console, you can cap spending for each key.

## FAQ

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I need a VPN?">
    No. RuAPI is reachable from Russia directly, and the agents connect to it without a VPN.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need an Anthropic or OpenAI account?">
    No. You get Claude, GPT and the other models through RuAPI with a single RuAPI key, so Anthropic's and OpenAI's restrictions on Russian accounts don't affect you.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is there an equivalent of Cursor Tab autocomplete?">
    Not in the same form: Cursor's autocomplete runs on Cursor's own models. Open-source agents do most of their work through chat and tasks — writing and editing code from your description.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I keep using Cursor with my own key?">
    Even with your own key, Cursor requests go through Cursor's servers, so this may not work from Russia. It's more reliable to switch to one of the agents above — they talk to the model directly.
